94 300 fourtrax clutch
#1
I have a 94 300 fourtrax. The centrifugal clutch seems to be slipping and I am trying to determine if there is an adjustment. The screw that adjusts how the gears engage is adjusted properly. But -- when I try to climb a hill, the engine just seems to overrev and continue to do so until I eventualy end up in first. A motorcycle buddy told me that he clutch plates may be glazed over and are not engaging properly. Just trying to find out if there is an adjustment (where/how) and if clutch replacement an easy job (How??). Any help/advice appreciated....

Could be faulty clutch linkage (unlikely), worn or glazed clutch disks, weak clutch springs, or, if the fourtrax has a separate centrifugal clutch, worn or glazed shoes.
You'll a need new clutch case gasket, because you're going to get a chance to see what the insides look like. I've found an impact wrench a fall-on-your-knees blessing when removing shaft nuts performing clutch work.
I recommend a service manual; if you replace the fiber clutch disks, RAD's racing disks/extra-strong clutch springs (Recreation Unlimited) work well, although I'm sure Honda OEM parts are o.k., too.
Good luck.
