Default 300ex shifting problem

My 300ex has delevoped a shifting issue. 1st to 2nd hits neutral probaly 50% of the time. Pull up again and it goes right in to 2nd. Used to just barely raise up and in neutral now can raise it all the way and no 2nd until shifted again. What has happened and what will need to be done to fix it? Drained the oil no metal flake and all the gears hold just fine. Does not do this on the down shift. Thanks Jame

No it just goes straight to neutral from first then click again and in 2nd it goes. Almost like the detent drum is not working right. I made sure that the lever is going all the way up. Rode it again in the yard this eveing to check out the condition. 1st then neutral then shift again 2nd - all th eothers work just fine. It even does this engine off in the garage. You must roll it forward to shift into 2nd. If you hold the lever up and roll it forward it will sift in a few feet.
