84 trx200 spewing oil from pulse generator
#1
Anyone know why my 84 trx200 is spurting oil out of the pulse generator cover, I opned it up and it looks as if it is designed for overflow but there is a lot of oild coming out of there. Could this just be by desing and there is a bad gasket?

There should be a gasket and an O-ring behind the pulse generator body. If there are no cracks in the body this seems like the most likely cause. the Gasket and O-ring are only about 4 bucks each so this would be the logical place to start. good luck

Thanks for your quick reply! The housing cover has what looks like a drain on it, is this designed for the issue I am describing. ie: if the gasket is not in tact the oil is designed to be able to flow out so as not to just sit there in the pulse generator body?

Oil should not be in the pulse generator housing at all. It sounds to me that the cam shaft seal is bad.
You will need to remove the outside cover and the timing advancer, and then you can see the seal.
It can be replaced without removing the rear portion of the housing. Just be careful to not scracth the cam or it will wear out the new seal over time.
