Battery life. How long?
#1
I've never had any luck with O.E. batteries. Seems every car I've bought needed a battery soon after.
My 400ex is almost a year old. How long are the batteries lasting for you guys? I do put it on a maintainer when I'm not riding it.

If you maintain it, it should easily last you 3 years. Mine is dying after a year but that's because it got run down for about a week when i left the key on. Now it's really weak even after a full charge. and i probably should get a new one.

I bought my first Quad in 1989 from the original owner it was an 86' Honda TRX 350 Foreman had about 20 hrs on it when i got it. Original owner didn't ride it enough to keep the battery charged he burnt out the starter trying to boost it everytime he rode it. I had to buy a new starter and battery, both were Honda OEM Made in japan, the new battery last abour 4 yrs it was a sealed type. then i bought a Sears Diehard it went bad after a year ! The last one i got was from auto zone about 2 yrs ago and it's still going strong it cost 39.99 the sears cost 90.00 and the Honda OEM cost over 125.00 ...I bought a new one for my second quad a 1993 suzuki 300 KQ the same year from Wal - Mart for 49.98 auto zone didn't have one for the KQ....i sold both quads to my youngest brother and his wife they ride everyday ! I bought a 2006 Arctic Cat 400 fis TVR Auto feb. 7th 2006, i don't know if it's the sealed type battery or not ! But if they cost 2 0r 3 times more Than auto zone or wal mart i'll buy one of these cheap brand's when i have to replace it...........williebee

Never had a battery problem with anything. My oldest is the 400EX that I bought in 99, and it's still the original battery. I never do anything special, just be sure to ride them often enough to keep it charged up.
You do have colder winter nights up there in the high desert, so that may be a factor if it is in an unheated garage.
