just wonderin wat people are talkin about is wrong with the electric shift program and just how big a problem is it to get fixed and is it just on the ranchers and should i even worry about it until or if it even happens to either of mine

Most of the problems come from either a run down battery, or corrorded battery connections, or from not doing the clutch adjustment often enough.
If theres a weak spot, its the angle sensor, but if you have a newer model, i wouldnt worry about it. Just ride and enjoy, and do the clutch adjustment after every oil change.

Technically, ESP stands for Electronic Shift Program, and it refers to manualy shifting the automatics (Rancher AT, Rubicon, and Rincon).
ES, is a celenoid that shifts a manual transmission, in the Rancher 350, Recon, or Foreman.
So, your title is a little off, but we know what you mean!

Actually, honda calls it ESP on the non automatic bikes too. My 02 Honda rancher ES reads Electronic Shift Program right on the side of the engine.
Neither me nor any of many people that I know with the Rancher ES have had any problems with them.

yep, when i bought my rancher is was advertised as ESP- Electric Shift Program.
anyways, about the problems, dont worry too much. The weakest point of the system is the angle sensor because it is a moving part and it's just a chunk of plastic mostly.
Do the clutch adjustment before every weekend of riding, clean the machine off when done to minimize corrosion, and put a battery maintainer on it during long term storage. Those steps will keep your problems to a minimum.
