Default Recon front brake issues.

I have a 1998 Recon that is giving me fits. It slowly lost front brake pressure along with braking power. Adjusted the brakes according to manual, that helped a little bit. Eventually lost all brakes and pressure. Replaced front brake shoes, bled lines and adjusted new shoes. Still no pressure and no brakes. Replaced wheel cylinders, replaced brake fluid and adjusted brakes. Still no pressure, have brakes but only when lever hits handle bar grip. Could the problem be bad/contaminated brake fluid? Brake fluid is a couple of years old.

you havent mentioned if you replaced the master cylinder, and anytime you have t bleed the brakes you should always use fresh brake fluid from an unopened container. brake fluid is really bad about absorbing moisture which makes it no good. back to the master cylinder you didnt mentioned if you replaced it or not, i would replace it and flush the whole system and use fresh fluid that the manufacturer suggests. also check the condition of the rubber brake lines. hope this helps

Thanks. No I did not replace the master cylinder. Was hoping that I had spent enough money already. Will replace fluid with new and see where that gets me. The hoses seem to be in good shape as they are not leaking and are not dry rotted.

I replaced all the fluid with new fluid and the brakes are as good as they ever were. In retrospect, I probably didn't need the wheel cylinders replaced. Oh well. Thanks to all.
