Less engine braking than others but you got use to it??

Yep, I thought exactly the samething with my Rincon,I just got USE to it having poor engine downhill braking for the 2 years that I owned it. That is until I went back to an ATV that had REAL downhill engine braking again. There were some hairy downhill moments too.

To safely and successfully navigate a steep and serious downhill grade, the operator must stay in CONTROL of his ATV and to aid this process, engine braking really helps out ALOT. Why should ANYONE have to get USE to not having it?Thats like owning an ATV with no brakes and getting use to it,dangerous and risky, but you make do.

You've never needed a LOCKER? Thats cool, but it just indicates that you've not taken it in real serious mud yet. My Rincon was OK in the thick stuff, but even with 589s on all four corners, you could sure tell it was'nt up to par with my other buddies big bore ATVs that come FACTORY with lockers. That is because of the Rincon's 3wd and poor low range when compared to the other big bore 4x4s.

As far as beating your buddies 800 BRP on a MX track? Big deal! Two riders with the same experience level and weight, and the Rincon has NO chance of taking the BRP 800 in ANY phase of the race---PERIOD!.

I know, I owned them BOTH!

I ride nasty technical stuff, and I wouldn't want to be on ANYTHING that is larger or heavier than my Rancher! It will climb anything any big bore will, and do it better in a lot of situations because it is lighter and has a low center of gravity. It will haul a deer for sure, but I wouldn't carry a passenger on anything.

A Rancer does not have enough engine to develope the wheel speed needed to make serious steep hills, especially a steep SANDY hill. You are seriously mistaken IF you really believe that a Rancher will climb ANY hills that a big bore will.

I have no problem beliving that the Rancher is a fine ATV, [ I sold Honda's for years] but it does have its limitations when compared to other ATV,and it does some things BETTER than the bigger bore ATVs,but climbing steep hills is NOT one of them.

jerk-off drag race, no doubt, but check the overall time of the (2002) Rincon that won Baja vs. the (2006)Outlander....trash talker

END OF QUOTE*--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Honda never made a 2002 Rincon. And the Rincon that won the Baja was not in its stock form........trash talker.

Interesting thread sofar. Actually the Rincon seems to have the same appeal as a Caddilac. Generally Honda accomodates the sensible trail riding public well but this is America. They (Honda) too are in it for the money. It's funny. You can spot them in the showroom. Middle aged, Driving SUV's with no trailer hitch. Neatly dressed with a preference for western wear. Never finance the ATV and sucking down all the hype the salesman can pump up thier butt. Here in the hills the resale on them holds much like a Caddilac as well. At least for the ones without bent racks. This is America and sure some folks want a Status ATV. Why Not! Hopefully those folks will understand that they may need a second machine (trx300-trx450) to ride with all those poor assed rednecks that keep pulling his rincon off him. Folks this ain't no Sh_T. Downhill these things are flat dangerous. Get a second hand machine with a good granny gear and enjoy riding with all them ol redneck boys. Hell, They don,t care whut ya ride!

at least 2.5 cents

whatever you say beagles, You obviously have it all figured out.

I love my 05. I have ridden up and down some pretty big moutains, at least by East Coast standards and the Rincon is perfectly safe. Yes, engine braking is not what you would expect if you have ridden other quads but put it in ESP1 and use the brake handles a little and you are golden.

Besides, Caddilac wouldn't make a vehicle that didn't go down hills safely, would they? Neither does Honda.

Good luck with whatever you decide Raptor5.

You read one thread on a Rincon topic, you've read them all.
Same players and same retorick.
I need to start a collection and sell the movies rights when this hits the peak!!!
