I think the trend to go bigger and bigger is not necessarily the best. The Honda 400EX and 250R are kinda like a middleweight sportbike. Good speed and great handling. I think as the quads get bigger and more powerful they become more like a ZX-12 or a Hayabusa they are super fast but are heavier and do not handle as well as the R6 or R1. No one that is into sportbikes would argue that the ZX-12 is the best sportbike because it is the fastest, most contest the best overall package of speed and handling, such as the R6, R1 or CBR929RR.

So why is it that some quad people are so wrapped up in top speed of quads. I dont think there is a stock quad that can break 80 with stock gearing. Most sport bikes can do that in 2nd gear if not 1st.

On the flip side if Honda was to come out with a 650EX I am sure it would be a great effort and would be unrivaled by any machines that are out right now, but it wouldnt interest me unless it was under 400lbs. I know that the XR650 motor is very light but, I think Honda will probably use thicker gears like they did on the XR400 motor when the put it in the 400EX.

The most interesting prospect to me is the possibility of putting the new CR450 4 stroke motor in a quad. I am sure we will see one at a National someday soon. However, I am not sure that any of the manufacturers are ready to give us a true and pure high performance machine. Maye, Cannondale, but then again maybe not!

I'm totally agree with Adamsmith, the new 450cc 4-stroke liquid cooler, power plant is what I'm dreaming inside a Honda sport quad.
Think about:
Lightweight (No more than 370lbs.)
Great Handling
Reliable (As always Honda is)
Fast.
Now imagine it with:
High Com. Piston
Cam
Exhaust
The right jetting and filter
and Ported you can easily keep up
with the Raptor's.

Why not the 300ex, if you are looking for just handling! The 400ex gave handling and speed thats why it was so popular.

Now enter the Raptor; more speed same handling, well, almost. ( It would be the same if Yamaha would have made them the same width)

Whomever said the stock 400 could keep up with the Raptor needs to lay off the heavy stuff for awile!!!

Hey If they were to release a 650ex it would make a 400exes value go down a great deal wouldn't it? And kyraptor, I'll give the raptor some credit, its a nice machine, but it is far from being the best. Again that is my opinion and everyone is entitled to one. I think if Honda did release a new quad that would be great, and if they don't, my 400ex is fine with me. And also kyraptor, Why do you have a quad if all you want to do is go fast and straight? Why not buy a top fuel dragster?

thats right. i think the best quad is the lt250r but thats just cuz i have one. thats why most 400 EX owners like to think theirs are best and the same with raptors. its stupid to argue over which is best. every1 thinks differently and theres different things about the quads that appeal to different people. i like the raptor and i like the 400EX. u should be happy u even have one. i wish i did. even though i like lt's better i'd trade mine off to get either quad! quit argueing its really childish.

From what I remember they both were set to break 200mph, but both came up a few mph short. Somewhere around 197mph.

How about the YZ426 in a quad? They are stock at 58hp!!!

The main reason Honda is coming out with there yet to be named 4-stroke bike, somewhere between 400 and 450cc, is to have something competitive with that awesome machine.

I saying the quad with the top speed is the best. What I am saying is handling being equal take the hp. The 300 and 400 handle the same. Why not take the fastest one. Same with the Raptor and 400.
