i want to gear down my 450. i was told that switching the front sprocket to a 13 tooth would do the trick, any other suggestions for gearing down.

The 06 is geared down from the 04/05, and personally I think the 06 is right on. I would think that gearing down would be to much. It would be so troquey that you would have trouble keeping the front end on the ground. Try maybe a tooth bigger in the back or something. (They say 1 tooth in front = 3 teeth in back.)

I thought '06 came with a 13T stock like the CRF? That leaves the back one as your better option. 12T is awful small and harder on the chain.

for some reason i thought that the front sprocket was a 15 tooth on the front. maybe i am wrong i will have to check that. and i did not know the 1 tooth= 3 teeth on the back. thanks a lot. one of the reasons that i want to go lower gear is it is having a hard time in 5th. it takes about 2 seconds for the power to kick in 5th gear, i have got the jetting right i believe. the machine is only 2 months old.

the 06 comes with 13 and 04 05 comes with 14.... Why would you want to go down a tooth, I just put a 15 tooth on my 05 and it rips up the trails, it seems soo much faster... Going to 12 would be crazy... Just my .02$...

let me make sure that i get this. by adding teeth to the front it gears it down or up, same with the rear, adding gives you lower gears ( more torqe, less top end ) and lowering teeth is more top end?

smaller front sprocket = more low end/less top end
larger front sprocket = less low end/more top end

smaller back sprocket =less low end/more top end
larger back sprocket = more low end/less top end
