I think the owner's manual says to warm it up, turn the engine off, then let is stand a few minutes before checking.
I have to say that I look at the sight glass every time I get on the quad, cold or hot. This engine doesn't hold any extra oil, so any loss will be critical. So it doesn't hurt to check to often.........

Do run extra oil in your transmission, at least 100 mL (cc's), but some are running a full quart. Some of the gears are only lubed by splash, so running extra oil will insure that they aren't ever left high and dry. This is more of a problem with the dirt bikes, but why take a chance?
You mentioned Mobil oil??? My first choice recommendation is Maxima Extra in both the engine and trans (http://www.maximausa.com/products/4s...synthextra.asp), but if you couldn't find it and got Mobil 1 MX4T, that is a good second choice.
