Default 86 Fourtrax 350 4x4 Idle enrichment

My machine seems to be running rich. I have cleaned the carb and #'s on the jets seem to be the correct ones. I am running a 1 step up hotter plug, but under 3/4 to wot is seems to be burning rich alot of excess gas. Will adjusting the air enrichment needle on the bottom of the carb help? If so, what should it be set at? I can't get a repair manual for this machine according to the Honda Dealership. Thanks for any and all help in advance.

Nope, it wont help much at all. That mixture screw is for idle up to maybe 1/8 throttle. After that the needle takes over til it gets to around 3/4 throttle and main from there to wot.
Its posible someone drilled out the main jet, and even though its stamped correctly...it can be way too big.
The jets are rated in mm. So for example if it reads 100, then move the decimal over two places, and you end up with 1mm. Which is .0394 inches. But that wont help if you dont have a way to measure it. Then it not only needs to be the correct diameter, but it needs to have the correct profile or geometry. Drilling at home does away with the correct geometry.Your best bet, just buy a new main jet, they are like a few bucks from the dealer. Then you know for sure the size is correct.
Hows the air filter? Been cleaned and reoiled lately? A badly dirty air filter will give you symptoms like this too.
Welcome to the forums.

Thanks for the info! One other quick ? To adjust clutch, I have to run the screw all the way in and back off 1/2 turn correct?

I had the carb completely torn apart, because the arm and linkage that raises the plunger and needle came loose and I had no WOT. It was rich before the carb was torn apart and cleaned and still afterwards as well. I think maybe the jets have been redone, so I am going to get new jets from the dealer and rule out one possilblity! Thanks for all your advice!

I assume you mean a spark? At a guess, the trigger coil on the flywheel is not sending a signal to the CDI to tell the CDI when to make a spark. The service manual will tell you how to test the wire going to the CDI to check for this, either the resistance value between this wire and earth, or the AC voltage it makes when the engine is spun on the starter.
