Choke on 450
#2
Doesn't anybody have a freaking owner's manual?????
On the left side, there is a triangular motor mount with three bolts. Just behind that is a yellow lever. Out is on, in if off.
I find that I need to give it full coke when starting cold. Plus, a couple of pumps on the throtle will inject some fuel into the carb. I kick it and at the bottom of the stroke, I give it a little throtle. Usually comes to life first kick. When it starts, immediately turn the choke off, and baby it for a couple of minutes until it will idle. (If you don't turn the choke off, the engine will race, which isn't the greatest thing for a stone cold engine.)
When hot, do NOT ever touch the throtle. Just hold the hot start button and kick it. Give it throtle only after it begins to come to life. Works one kick, every single time!

It was just that there was another post at the same time, and guess what, no manual either.........it's like a plague!
Personally, I would be super suspicious of whether the previous owner had done any maintenance, if they don't even know where their manual is.
