Default Rancher vs Rancher AT

You obviously dont know. The Rancher AT does not have gears. It is more like a hydrostatic drive on a lawn mower. The different selections adjust the swash plate angle to determine fluid flow. If it gets stuck in "gear" it is broken.

Default Rancher vs Rancher AT

well i have an 04 AT and love it. it has all the power i need, it drug and elk out of the woods with my wife and me on it. with all my hunting gear on it too. they are right the low end grunt could use some help. but it has and does tow my trailer with more than 3000 lb on it. just getting it going is the hard part.
the reason i like it is my wife can drive in auto and i can drive in ESP. kinda like manual. it realy is a good quad. as for waiting for the new 07 420... sure if you want as radiator to get pluged up and or leak. just not something i am interested in. i like the air cooled. worked for 100 years will still work for the next 100 years. the design has been around for ever and it's tryed and true. it plain just works. no thermastats and or water pumps to go bad.. maybe if you run out of air it won't cool. but then again you would be either. LOL

what are you going to use it for?
what is your riding style?
how often are you going to ride?

Default Rancher vs Rancher AT

I have a, '06 Rancher AT and I love it!!!! The machine has done everything, I have asked it to do. I mainly trail and light mud ride. I have pulled, a 1949 Ford Custom before with no problem, whatsoever. I would suggest this atv to anyone, that like's to ride and just kick back. Switch to ESP for hill's and mud and you will be fine. The Rancher AT has far more option's (bell's and whistle's) for the relaxed rider.

I had a 2005 for about a year, and sold it to my dad. (I wanted the IRS on the Rincon - got a 2007 camo model.) I loved it, and he does too.

No problems so far. I think the transmissions shifts very very well. In fact, I like the auto on the Rancher AT, better than my Rincon. Engine braking on 400AT is fantastic. (better also than my Rincon)Power is just fine for whatever I used it for (mountain of Eastern KY). It goes up steep grades just fine. Good size and weight. Great ATV for the price. Should be able to get for $4900 or so at Abernathy's or Southern Powersports. I bought mine last fall at a dealer in Central KY. Got it for about $100 more than the 2 dealers listed above. Not bad for a local dealer. Now is a good time to buy, especially if you don't mind a 2006. They are clearing inventory, and you can get a good price.

well me and the wife went to the topsfild fair. and were testing out the quads. 250 size is a tad to small for us. so after i month of researching the 250 class from sport to utility. I'm back to square one. the rancher is a long line. but I will not buy one with a auto on the handle bars. they are untrustworthy. i will buy maybe a 2007 base model so i can shift it. since i rode it quite abit and liked the feel of it. other than it sticking in gear for a long time. I will most likely get a rancher since no ther company has anything close to its price point. I won't spend 5k for a quad. ever... I just don't see the justification for it.

You say you don't won't an auto on your bike. I understand that! The Rancher AT is great machine, if it fit's into the riding you like to do. If I were you, I would at least get a 4WD, you say that you don't won't one, which is fine. Who know's when you will need the extra traction. Good to have just in case. I trail ride mainly and I have to use mine every once in awhile. I love Rancher AT!!!!
