Well, I'm kinda sick of my kawi and was looking at the hondas, particularly the 450r and 400ex. My question is, which is better for trail riding? I fell in love with the 450r, but have been hearing things about it being too low and/or stalling alot on the trails? I don't mind if I have to get a 400ex, but I would enjoy the extra kick of the 450.

 

i say 450r, ihave one and it has alot of extra kick!!! it does stall sometimes tho, idk y but im use to it now and i love it.

 

i would pick the 400ex although i dont know much about either i would think the 400ex is more reliable-air-cooled? also do they bith have reverse for me that would be the selling factor

 

I ride the 400EX on trails, especially the very slow technical ones. It doesn't mind being lugged down, and ridden slowly.

The 450R is geared tall, and likes to run. It is kind of a pain to ride on technical stuff, because you have to work the clutch (and I even went down a tooth on the front sprocket). I pick it for faster, more open trails, and open desert.

 

I ride on pretty tight trails and hate to have to overkill on the klutch...so far 400ex is in the lead for me.
