well, i've done all my service stuff execpt checking the coolant, i'm good with a wrench but have never not once worked on a atv, i'm assuming the spout by the right rear of my seat is where the coolant goes, and i've heard that i wanna use ice stuff and a mix of distilled water, also where do i check the level and do i wanna be draining and refilling, or am i gonna end up messing things up...... THANKS

 

okay so i've figured out that the tank in the back is a reserve coolant correct? jeez this get tough.... just found a ripped boot on the front outer and the engine is knocking..... damit...... u think i should invest in a feeler gauge?? never done valves before. thanks...

 

for coolant you will wnat to get engine ice which should not be mixed with water it is already mixed for you and can get it from rockymountainatv.com...I would replace the ripped boot definately and invest in a torque wrench and feeler gauges...also you may want to get the specs and procedures to check the valves and/or adjust them...you should be able to get stuff printed out from a local dealer if they are nice enough to do so if not someone else on here will most likely help you out

 

By all means, check the valves, but I doubt that would cause a knock.

If you are going to keep the machine for a while, I'd get a service manual.

As far as coolant goes, use something designed for atv/motorcycle. Automotive coolants have silicates (abrasives designed to reduce corrosion) but they can reduce the life of water pumps in smaller engines.

 

manual is on its way and i just grabbed 2q of honda coolant, don't know exactly how much it take but i think 1.8, also how do i know when theres enough and how do i get the old coolant out? is it that weird flat drain in the bottom of the radiator? thanks u guys rock. damn steering is creaking so badly prob cause of that ripped up boot huh, its pulling to the left quite a bit too, sux looks like i got my work cut out for me, i'm hard headed so i like to do it all myself, HATE getting jerked at dealerships HATE it. i walk in there asking the dummmbest questions and then get the bill all YUPPIED out version of a bill. oh right if its not the vaulves knocking then what?? its really only at idle and small rev, not noticable at speeds, loud tip tho.
