I own both a Honda product [98 Recon] and a Polaris product [00 400cc Xplorer]
The Honda you mention? It sure does seem like I see a few of them no matter where I ride!Nobody I know that owns one regrets buying it.Quite a nice all purpose 4x4 ATV.Very dependable to.Im not a fan of the front limited slip diff on the Honda though[3x4].In comparison to the Polaris 4x4,the superiour traction certainly goes to the Pol product. It supplies power to ALL 4 wheels when the AWD is activated. The Honda is full time 4x4,the Pol is switchable between 2wd-4wd.The Honda is all shaft driven with an auto clutch, the Pol has a rear chain and an auto trans.Ground clearance edge goes to the Pol.The Pol is more fun in the trails/mud.Honda is a 4 stroke, the Pol is a 2-stroke.Acceleration will be better with the 2 -stroke,longivity goes to the 4 stroke.MY personal preferance would definatly be with the Xplorer, however, someone else may like the Honda more,

Nyal,
I am the only person I know that has had continued adjustment problems with the chain on Xplorer's.
My dealer replaced my entire Concentric drive unit at about 800 miles, all for free.Than at about 900 miles, the chain and sprockets were also replaced, all free of charge.
Funny thing is,I now have over 1000 miles on my Xplorer, and I have not had to adjust the chain, not even once.Thats really good, when the quad was new,it required an adjust after the first ride and about 20 times or more thereafter.
Perhaps I got a bad chain and sprocket right from the factory the first time?
You will be required to lube the chain, this is done very easily.I would tell you that there are many Xplorer users out there today that have had no chain related problems.Dont let my single experience prevent you from buying one.You will absolutely love everything else about this quad to,good luck on your choice,
