Hour/Tachometer for 2006 Rancher
#1
I'm interested in purchasing an hour/tachometer for my 2006 TRX350TM Rancher. Tiny-tach makes a model but I'm not sure if I need the one for 2-strokes or the 4-stroke model. I know that the Rancher is a 4 stroke but if you check their site they almost give me the impression that I need the 2 stroke model. Doesn't the Rancher only fire once every two revolutions?
I appreciate any insight or help you guys could give me.
This is their site http://www.tinytach.com/tinytach/gasoline.php
Thanks for the help.

Not sure but I got one for our twin cylinder 4 stroke....coiled it around just one plug and it worked
Two stroke vs. 4 stroke would not matter
they operate 1 cycle of the engine between sparks(some throw a wasted spark that screws up the meter)

My guess would be 2 stroke for 2 stroke 4 stroke for 4 stroke or if they work as good on both buy the one that cost less , but quality reliability would come first for me ! ............williebee

yes, you need the tt226nr-2c, it's the 2-stroke single cylinder model but it works on CDI 4-strokes, because the CDI box doesnt tell the difference between TDC compression and TDC overlap, it fires on both. It's kinda a new thing that all 4 stroke engines do (yes, even cars) that extra spark after the exhaust stroke helps burn excess fuel going out of the exhaust stream, and just seems to work better by using a single crank sensor instead of a crank/cam sensor setup, that way if the cam chain wears it doesnt affect the timing, since the timing is now run off the crank instead of the camshaft.
I have this model on my 2005 rancher, and it works perfectly fine. no tapping into any existing wires, it's just a wire you wrap around the spark plug cable, and it picks up the magnetic flux of the spark and the tiny tach does the rest, it runs off a battery that lasts for like 40 years or something, so it's always on so you can see the total hours all the time without turning the key on.

I have the redington model on all my quads, and my foreman and kodiak only fire on every other tdc, but my 300ex fires at every tdc. I would think the rancher would be like my foreman and only fire every other tdc.
But if thats the one they reccomend, thats the one to get.
