450 forman wont start
Had my quad out in the rain for a few hours and now it wont start. It has spark and air but i am not sure about fuel. And once in a while it will backfire. It has also dried up from the rain so not to worry there. ANy ideads it only sat there for a few hours so it cant be anything major. ANy helps is good. Thanks

that plus make sure that the airfilter isn't wet because if it is then it will restrict air and suck water into the intake...if it continues to not start let it sit a few days and see if it will start again;if it doesn't then I would drain the gas and the carb and start from there. If you did somehow get water in the engine, take the sparkplug off and hopefully the water will evaporate out, but make sure nothing gets in the sparkplug hole.

K thanks fo rall the help. I turned it over some more and it ran for a quick 5 seconds or so then died but before that when I was trying to get it started it backfired 2 times out of the muffler and after it ran for the few seconds I tried it again and it backfired again, so I left it untill I know if backfiring is hurting it and what is causing it? I will take the plug out and mabye there is some water in there somehow. I do have lots of fuel in the tank and I tried it on reserve just in case. Thanks

Back fire is a symptom of being lean...which we already know.
Have you tried the choke? How about the primer?
Its posible you have a plugged pilot jet, and no gas is getting thru on idle. Try starting it at 1/4 throttle. If it starts, and runs, but dies when you release the throttle...then you have a plugged pilot jet. If it continuses to backfire, even at 1/4 throttle, youll need to figure out why the gas isnt flowing. Maybe a plugged vent or restriction in the gas line. The gas cap has a vent and so does the carb, make sure they both arent pluged with mud .

K I will try it at 1/4 throttle but last time i tried it with throttle it backfired more. I have checked the gas cap vent and choke. Although there are a few things on the quad I dont understand. There is a blash push button on the carb is this the primer?? Also there are 3 hoses coming off the carb, 2 which come from the side of the carb "T" off into one and the end of the hose tuck into the frame Is this a vent? Also there is another hose from the bottom of the carb and it just hangs down towards the back but it seems to have some sort of small filter on it. What is this? Thanks alot

One question for you, was the quad working before it got rained on? Try taking off the airfilter just for a little to see if the quad will work because if it is wet then it won't start like I stated earlier, Hondabuster has very good info but if the quad was working fine before the incedent then I don't think some of that will be the case, but clogging of the jets could be a possibility. I think that since it wouldn't start before, that the airfilter is wet or you have water somewhere else like the gas that would allow the quad to fire correctly. If you have any other spark plugs give that a try also.
