Default First Rincon Ride

It is not a safety issue. It is not faulty. It is not dangerous. It is simply different.
If someone is completely new to atvs and has never ridden one, then they are not expecting EBS. If they are trading up to a Rincon, then they know what is important to them and should research what they are buying.
Honda never said that they have a problem. They just said the new ones are improved.
I went from a Foreman 450 that has extremely strong EBS to the Rincon with no problems at all. How much concentration do you need to apply brakes. It is not distracting at all. If it is for some people then they don't need to be riding any quad. If they can't apply brakes while watching where they are going, then they probably can't chew gum and walk at the same time either.

Yeah I'm with Foremandan, if you can't apply brakes and still concentrate on the trail then you shouldnt be on a atv or in car for that matter. I have 1,000 miles on my Rincon I havent had any problems going down steep hills. I think engine braking can be more dangerous because if your in to low of a gear your wheels could lock up and cause the rear end to skid sideways. Would it also be fair to say that the 450r has safety issues because if you give it to much gas going up a hill it could easily flip over?

I am right at 1000 miles on mine also. It's good to see some more Rincon riders on here.

Has anyone else noticed that the people who complain about the lack of engine braking on the Rincon, don't have a Rincon??

I wouldn't go as far as to say that engine braking is dangerous, but just a different technique. It is another thing you can use to control your ATV, or you can still mess up with it. I think it is an advantage, but not a necessity.

Rinman you are exactly right. If you go to RInconriders where there are hundreds of Rincon owners I have not read any complaints about the lack of EBS.

Like Formandan said if you cant use the brakes like most riders can and not focus on things around you then you should not be on a quad. I think EBS is a lazy way of riding. IF you have it great if not who cares.

It is NOT a safty issue to not have EBS on a quad. Its not like the government said you have to put EBS on a quad because it is a safety issue. Its a luxury just like ABS on a car. Not all cars have ABS. That does not mean they are not any less safe. People are spoiled by all the extra gadgets they have on thier quads. They think in their mind that their quad is so much better because it has this or that. I have a Sp600 with EBS and I do NOt like it. I like to use my brakes the way they are intended to be used. I will crawl down the steepest hills just as slow as the guys with ebs without sliding. It is called control. If you cant control your quad under your own power then you should not be riding.

At least the rest of us can do our nasty technical descents in NEUTRAL, so we too can experience the thrill of riding the Rincon!

Yep! That's why I bought one. All the bad reviews I read were by non-owners. I always take those with an entire salt block, not just a grain. ;P

I did a little research on this rolling down hill and need for brakes thing. Seems there is this weird force on the planet Earth called Gravity! I am so glad I was warned it effects things with wheels. In my entire life I had never noticed it before. You have saved my life!

(Just kidding! Don't take it personally.)

I agree with RECONRANGER in regards to the poor engine braking on the Rincon and I AM a previous OWNER of the Rincon!

I drove my Rincon for two years and never really thought about how POOR the downhill engine braking was on it until I bought my 2005 King Quad that had EXCELLANT downhill engine braking. And after having EBS once again on a quad, I gotta tell you, I really missed it!

To slam somebody and tell them that they should not ride an ATV because they desire an ATV with EBS is nothing more than a cop-out for the short comings of the vehicle in question. Its like saying that because somebody desires a lockable 4x4 mode on their ATV, that they too, dont know how to ride and should'nt---ALL BS IMO..And it further indicates that you really have'nt been down to many step hills in the first place. I've been riding 3-4 wheelers since 1983 and not ALL of my machines had EBS, but I have to tell you that thru these years, I've also been on some of the nastiest-twistiest downhill decents an ATV has ever seen, and I SURE appreciated having EBS----AND believe me ---I KNOW HOW TO RIDE.

If your not going to be riding your ATV in these conditions, than I agree, the Rinny could be a good choice for you. BUT dont slam somebody else for wanting the EBS feature on their ATV.
