***** 06 TRX450 Starter Problem *****
anyone have this problem on an 05 trx 450r? I went to ride the other day and after idling for not even 20 seconds or so, the engine died. Now my kick starter will not budge and I cannot kick the pedal down. It is just stuck. People tell me my crank is shot. Only way to tell is to tear it down. I have also been told there are design flaws with the oem cranks. Anyone else hear of this or has anyone had this problem on their 05? I will need to call Honda and check for some recalls. Someone else told me their rod bearings caused their kick starter to lock up, too.

I AM a certified honda service manager and there is NO recall on the starter unit. Only recall for the 06 is the throttle arm.
I too have an 06 that cooked the starter clutch. Instead I made a kick starter kit work for it as well as the kick starter. That way if the starter ever failed on me again i could at least get the bike started with the kicker</end quote></div>
I just had mine replaced by a Honda dealer for free, not under warranty. I didn't buy mine there, I didn't even buy it new. They didn't call it a recall, they called it a "Product Update Campaign". Whatever you want to call it, they are doing them. They replaced the reduction gear, and the one way clutch, and did the throttle arm while they were at it.
If anyone out there is having this problem, call a Honda dealer.
