Default Help! Recon may be lemon

First off, hello everyone. I bought a used 2004 Honda Recon ES from a dealer about 2 weeks ago and haven't been riding very much because it is been freezing here in Michigan. I took it out today and it was smoking at start up. I pulled the plug and oil was all over it. I put it in and ran it for a while and the oil burned off and it wasn't smoking anymore. I did a compression check on it and registered 70lbs. I don't have the specs for the compression but I believe it should be well over 100. Anyone know what the compression should be? I only have two weeks to figure out if it is a POS so I can exchange or get warranty work done?? Also, I don't believe this atv should be burning oil when it is cold and stop when everything warms up and parts expand. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

i believe my rancher is around 97 psi new. 70 is a bit low, and if your smokin till warm up, the rings are shot.

Make sure the intake valve has the correct clearance. If the valve clearance tightens up, youll have a huge drop in compression.

Also is there an automatic decompression on it so the starter doesnt have to work so hard?
