250EX Clutch Adjustment
Sounds like the idle rpm is too high. The centifical clutch doesnt start to engage until 1700 rpm. To adjust the clutch (really the freeplay in the linkage)warm up the motor, then with the motor off,, loosen the locknut, turn the slotted screw CCW, until it meets resistance. Go back 1/4 turn CW, and hold the screw from turning while you snug the lock nut.
What type of oil is in the motor? Automotive oil, or motorcycle oil?

Pick a motorcycle specific oil that is API SG/JASO MA. The MA thing insures that it doesn't have friction reducing additive that will harm the clutch, and the SG thing insures that it has high pressure additives that will protect hig pressure areas like the transmission and cam.
I like Maxima's products. Their Premium is an economical petroleum oil, they also have a synthetic blend, and my favorite is Extra which is an ester synthetic.
