I was ridingthis weekend and I found a 400ex that is for sale. It was a red one (2000) with a white bros s/o or full i have to check, K&N filter, nerfs, bars, and a bumber. But i talked to them and i might be able to trade the blaster and cash for it. SO i want to know how much i should offer him? I looked in cycle trader for prices and 2000-'04 400exs are going for $3000-3500. And the blasters $2500- 3000. i was thinking around 500 cash because it is going to need tires, a new headlight, and my blaster just had a 1000 dollar rebuild and is on its 3rd tank of gas. So does 500 bucks sound reasonable? Thanks for the help. sorry for the long post.

 

that sounds about right if the 400ex is in good condition.

 

well the motor was good it started right up but it was already warm lol. And it didnt seem to be damaged jsut normal riding scratches and stuff. the frame looked good. but what else should i check?

 

The underside of the 4-wheeler will tell you if it has been rode alot or little. plus check the steering stem and make sure it is straight if not that means it has been rolled.

Let me get this straight. A 2004 Blaster in perfect condition with new top end and lots of very nice mods in exchange for a 2000 400EX with shot tires, broken headlight, new bars which mean it has probably been rolled, and a K&N which raises many questions about motor condition, and then you think the 400 is worth $500 nore than the Blaster. I would be inclined to keep the Blaster unless you are over 5'-10" and 180 pounds and then I would look for a nicer 400. There are lots of 400EXs with very nice mods that are being sold in order to upgrade to new 450s so my recommendation would be to just keep looking and in meantime be a happy Blaster rider.

 

OK well let me rephraise this. The head lights are not broken its just that the bulbs are burnt out. The bars are fine But I hate the bend they are way to high for me. But the tires have about 50% of tread left in the back. And one tire in front is new and the other has about 25% of tread so its really viberating in the bars. So its going to need new tires asap. So its going to cost me to get it right. But the filter raises a good point. thanks oldturtle. I will definatly think this one over.

 

OK i was just thinking about it and then i remembered they have an 2002 yellow 400ex but it all stock. And its in good condition.If the exhaust systems will fit each other have them give the white bros full system to me and put the stocker on the 2000. would that even it out some?Because the 2002 didnt need any work at all. so the 2002 plus the full exhaust would that be a good deal to take?

 

Of these two quads I would much prefer the 02 either fully stock or even better if you can talk them into adding the pipe and rejetting. I woulkd rather pay a little more up front for the better quad because with care you can ride these 400s for a very long time.
