I have A 01 red Recon i sometimes have to use when someone is using my 01 yellow 400EX, and i want it to have alot more power if possible.
Here are a few questions.

Are k&n filters w/prefilters recomended by you folks for desert(dusty) riding? and do they add much power?
jet kits? are they good? power?

pipes/sillencers? good power? price?

air box mods?

bore engine? cost? 300cc?

what i want is the most power for the buck, i would think that boreing the engine would be the cheapest big power increaser. what do you guyz think?

Adamwn, any internal combustion engine is just like a pump. If you change only the size of the pump (bore job) without changing the inlet or outlet, you may only get minimal results, and I don't think a boring, new piston & rings plus labor and gaskets would be the cheapest way to go.
I installed a Supertrapp IDS and Dynojet needle and jet on my 98 Recon. Stock air filt without lid. Adjust idle mixture screw so it doesn't backfire. Good results, minimal cost. Read the article in ATV Sport (Modified Recon-Aug.99)

After market pipe, jet kit, & filter will give you extra power. The kind of power you need to keep up with a 400EX is extensive motor work & then its probably not worth it. The above addons will cost you around $250-300 & maybe give you an extra 5-10 more power.

atv sport? do they have a web site?
what do people think of the k&n atv power kit?
or should i just buy the jet kit and leave stock air filter?(i ride in the desert only)
i would like to keep my air box cover and just put some holes in it. are there any things i should know about doing this? i would put about five penny sized holes, is that ok?
this will be my first jetting, is it hard? i have a little above average knowledge of tools and engines. ok so with a new exhuast and filter/airbox mods and jet kit, how much power increase should i get? i want it to be pretty noticable or i wont waste my time.
