He might be describing the shifting drum center star plate that clocks the drum when shifting there are shifting pins located on the face of this drum plate to enable the shifter mechanisim rotates the positions the drum.
If any of those pins had broken away from the assembly it might have floated around and got cought between the gears.
But to blow apart the side over at the cam shaft there must be case fractures all over that bottom half.
To rebuild this it will take alot of detailed work to do it yourself.
Manhours is not an issue the individual parts that if forgotten during assembly may be more of a problem.
Not looking good Looks like scrap aluminium
Maybe time to find a used engine.
