Mohs87Warrior,
If you ever get in the Twin Cities go a little further south to Cannon Falls. They sell 400ex's for around $4999+tax. That is the best deal that I have found in the upper-midwest. If you are at all serious about getting the best deal, shoot me an e-mail and I can give you more details.

I have seen lots of dealers say in their ads "we don't charge tax for out of state buyers", but if you ask them about it, they will tell you you have to pay tax in your own state.
A long time ago they had no titles, and after that they just had a "statement of origin", back then you COULD buy an ATV out of state and not pay taxes, you could just say it was a farm vehicle.
Not now, the Gov. has issued titles to the ATV's and YOU HAVE TO PAY TAX! You can still buy an ATV out of state and not pay tax directly to the dealer, but you have to pay it when you get it registered in the state you live in.
I have seen the 400ex listed for 4,999 but not 4,900, if you can buy it for 4,900 you better ****** it up!

You do not have to title a quad if you don't want to. The only hitch is that when you want to sell it you must inform the buyer of that fact. I had a 94 300ex that I bought from a guy with no title and I sold it to another guy a couple years later and told him that I did not have a title, but I did have the original bill of sale and a bill of sale from the original purchaser to me. The guy I
sold it to just took a bill of sale from me and he had a paper trail in case he ever wanted to title it. It may be different in your state, but I didn't care about the title because I just wanted to ride as cheaply as I could. I also would like to say that the post above concerning the "invoice" of a 400ex being $5300-$5400 is so much bull. I bought a Rubicon for $6199. Did the dealer sell it below cost? NO!! The average profit is approx. 15-19 % of the total MSRP. That means a 400ex profit is approx. $850-$1100. I am not a dealer, but I was service manager for a Honda automobile dealership and we NEVER sold a car for less than our cost-why would we? The truth is that all dealers, whether they be motorcycle or automotive are in business to make a profit. Why would a number of dealers sell a popular machine below cost- out of the goodness of their hearts? The dealer is not running a charity and the fixed overhead ( rent, utilities, property taxes, payroll, etc.) have to be paid whether they sell a 1 unit or 1000. Some dealers may sell for less profit in hopes of making up the lost profit through gaining business from the competition and volume (ala Wal-mart), and through service and parts department revenue which will rise with a greater volume of units sold, but they will not sell them below cost even if they have a 100 of them. If you have some proof that disputes this, please respond, otherwise let's help educate each other on the best price in order to help our fellow riders negotiate a better price.

I paid 5350 + tax title = close to 5650. Bought the first 2001 model dealer had on floor. It took about 8 dealers to get this price. It ended up being the local dealer. They wouldn't give me a price over the phone, so i said, i'll go elsewhere. 2 days later, i got a call, and THEY wanted to know what it would take to sell me a ex. I told them and now I have a red one. The next best price was 5500 and 2 hours away.
If you want the best deal, don't act like you'll pay anything.
