Default A question about a 07 Rancher an an 02 XR100

Hello I have a 07 Rancher 420 ES it is running to lean and I wanted to know how to richen it up so it is not running so lean?

My friend has an 02 XR100R he has had about 2 months now I was wondering if his bike has a headlight coil on it. I do alot of evening riding with some night riding and I fell bad that he has to quit riding or not get to come. So I was going to get him a headlight if his bike has away to make it work.

Thanks mike

What makes you feel that it is lean???? You will have to remap to change it.

Honda is famous for jetting lean to meet emissions standards, but I wouldn't say mine is terribly lean by any means. I ride mostly at high altitude anyway, so a little lean is fine with me.

Like Reconranger said.
If you have concerns about the unit running lean, you can take it to your dealer and have them check it for codes. Normally codes will force the ecu to run rich though as a safety feature.

Check out Dennis kirk, parts unlimited etc.. There shoild be a headlight kit out there that has a lighting coil in it, otherwise, no the factory stator does not have a lighting coil.

The reason I think it is running lean is that it backfires like crazy. I valves are in adjustment. I am going to change spark plugs though.

Gimpster I will check that site out thanks alot.

One other question about my 07 Rancher is there away backup way to start it if the battery or something else brakes while I am out riding? My uncle has a 92 fourtrx 300 and it has a backup kickstart.

Thanks Mike

Cool, let me know what you come up with on the backfire issue.
There is a recoil starter available for the foot shift 420 models only.

Don't be fooled, the backfire thing will go away!!! We have had several posts on this, and the consensus seems to be that once the header and muffler get carboned up a little it will run cooler, and that fixes it!

Mine did it the first few hours...hasn't done it since....

The recoil kit also fits the electric shift model. Installed myself, $140 for the kit at the dealer.
