Honda 400ex a good atv ?

I am looking for a good all around trail machine but also need the front end to come up on demand. I have always ridden dirtbikes and now I am getting a little older but still need the front end to come up :-) .
How dependable is the 400ex and does it make a good all around machine for playinf around ? I will not be racing but would like someting with plenty of power to bash around.
Also what year did they add reverse to the 400ex ? I would really like to have reverse.
Thanks,
D.

Great handling, good jumper, torquey dead solid reliable engine, good wheelie machine...but down on power compared to every other high performance quad....
This engine can lug like no other. I ride mine mostly as a tight trail quad. I mean woods trails where you might never even get into 3rd gear....this is where this machine excells! It does great in open country as well, it just isn't as fast as the others.
But....it may be getting some upgrades for 08! Might get fuel injection??? Suspension upgrades??? Who knows. New models get announced Sept 6.

a 400ex is a great all around machine. its not going to win meny races but you said you dont race anyhow so it whould be a great machine for you. i have not done a lot of reserch but a lot of people seem to like the suzuki 400, you might want to check it out. presonly i like hondas rep over suzuki. i ride yamahas but dont like the 350 raptor.

I like mine. It's been through a lot, especially when the guy before me had it and he raced it at a monster truck show. And like everyone else said, it's easy to ride wheelies; I got mine when I was 13 or just turning 14 and was able to get it up. It's a fun ride to play around too.
