Just bought a used 2000 400EX today. How do I adjust the clutch at the handlebar? Is there an idle speed screw? Also when I'm ready to move I will pull in the clutch, and when I put it in first gear the quad stalls? This is before I let out the clutch at all. Why does this happen? Thanks and more questions to follow.

read your owners manual. it tells you how to adjust your clutch, and idle.

I won't be able to get a manual until late next week. They ran out. The clutch lever has about 1/2" of play. What should be the setting? Thanks.

You think Honda ripped you off? Try buying a Genuine service manual for a car or truck...

The Clutch should have some play, I belive the official spec is 3/8". I run a little more in mine, but it should not die when you slip it in gear with the clutch pulled in. Take up a little of that slack.

Hey Jeff, I live close by you and my hubby has the manual, if you need help you could call us. Email me at covert1@onemain.com. I can give you my phone # and we could help you out. Hubby is a mechanic (don't tell him I called him that, he says he is a technician now). We would be happy to get you on the trails.

This may sound stupid, but check your local library, they may have a service manual. Also check on the net and you can find some of this info.

Dunno if you adjusted your clutch yet or not, but here goes....

Minor adjustments are made at the lever, u need 3/8-3/4 in. freeplay at the end of the lever. Make you dont run the adjuster out too far.

Major adjustments are made on the engine on the right side of the bike, same deal there with the locknut and the adjuster.

Same applies for the throttle and parking brake.
Throttle free play should be between 1/8-5/16 in.

Hope that helped
