help with 1986 350 trx
i have a 1986 fourtrax trx 350. the fan has only come on 4-5 times since ive had it(that ive noticed) Engine seems to be running hot. Is this fan supposed to run all the time or just when it reaches a certain temp.?Even if it is not supposed to run constant, i have a feeling that it is not running enough.I am hoping that, since it runs sometimes, that it is not the motor.(since it is a rather pricey part)Oh yeah, i have been on a couple longer rides when it was hot outside, and it only came on once each time, probably after a good hour or more.Anyone have any advice?

There are a couple of tests for the fan control unit .. If you ground the wire going to the oil temperature sensor the fan should start .. The oil temperature sensor is under a metal cover/guard beside the right foot rest ...
If you want the tests PM or post your email address and I will email you the shop manual section..

thank you, i will test it tomorrow. So it could be the oil temp sensor? The oil temp light has never come on(except when you first turn the key on). So im assuming the fan doesnt run constantly?email is gfaust@netscape.com. Thanks again

help with 1986 350 trx
thanks for the help. grounded the fan wire and it worked fine.maybe im just bein paranoid, but it just seems to me that it would run more often.as i said before, the oil temp light has never come on while riding the bike,so i would guess that if there was a problem that it would be the oil temp sensor.Would this be something that quits working alltogether, or would it call for the fan only sometimes? One more question-when the wheel is turned,i'm getting a clicking sound from the left front axle, any advice? Thanks again, forgive my being such a rookie,im new to the four wheel thing- more used to my harley.

help with 1986 350 trx
hi their i have a 87 trx 350 4x4 and i had the same problem to so a friend of mind just wire it directly to an off and on switch with a fuse linked in between. not sure exactly how he did it but it works like a charm. so this way here you have acess to your fan when ever you need to use it. ps/ in these hot weather right now my fan is always on and the motor seems to be doing ok. so it up to you if you want to try that or not... ho buy the way the guy that told me to do this, did the same thing to his bike, because it also works create in the winter when plowing the driveway.
