Default Keep 400ex or Get Raptor?

I love my 400ex. It wheelies so easily and the power is nice. However I have found a great deal on a 2003 Raptor. So I don't know if I should try and sell my 400ex and get the Raptor or... I don't know. My 400ex is burning oil but I'm sure the engine will continue to run great as long as I keep putting oil in. My friend just got a 450r and we drive a lot in 5th gear and it's hard to keep up to him.

The old 660 was narrow and tippy. I never liked it much. I don't even like the ergonomics of the new one, for that matter. If I had one, I would have to spend $$$ to widen it....not worth the trouble.

I would keep the ex. From what ive seen mine outruns raptors, so if you cant keep up with him now your not going to keep up with the raptor either. If its speed your looking for get a 450r or a yfz 450

I'd sell my Raptor 660 before either of my 400ex's... I love riding them all, but truly enjoy the Hondas. And I spend more time working on my Rappy then on all 3 other quads combined.

my two cents.

I would have to agree with Quad-Maniac. I have an 03 (that I'm also trying to sell) I've only had to replace the one way bearing other than that its been a good machine, but I am also very meticuless about maintaining my machines. Now, I know for a fact that the 400ex is the most reliable machine on the planet. My freind has one that he rides 10 miles to and from work every day for the last 5 yrs. Between work (at a farm) and just play riding this machine has to have 10000 plus miles on it. It is ridden hard and put away wet. I think the only thing changed on the machine besides oil was the carrier bearings a few times.

I know if I did that to my rappy it wouldn't last 6 months.

I went and checked the Raptor out last night and it didn't pull that hard. The guy that has it is the 2nd owner and he rode trails and the guy that had it before him had a hotcam in it and an exhaust system that made more noise than stock. So the guy that has it now put the stock exhaust back on and put the stock cam back on (he said reverse was pretty shitty with the other cam). It used toh ave 18's on the back but now 20's are back on it and I think that the sprocket gearing must have been geared up because it did not pull hard at all. I wouldn't even have been able to wheelie in first and my 400ex would have definately smoked it!

Conclusion: Sticking with 400ex for now. Even if it burns oil and I sell it next year, I could probably still get a good amount for it.

That thing will burn oil forever and run just fine. In fact 400ex's are known to consistantly burn a little oil. Just check it before every ride and you will be just fine.

You definatly dont want to buy that rappy if it wont wheelie. I pulled my rappy over on me in top of 3rd gear, and its basically stock. It will outrun the 400's but the 400's are still a superior machine. Remember you can only go so fast in the woods, and the 400 will definatly outrun a rappy in the woods on handleing alone

20 miles a day, say 250 days a year for 5 years is... 25,000 miles. Pretty impressive!

Yeh I Know. Those 400ex's get a bad rap from people who know nothing about it. They say "Oh its air cooled it cant last that long". My buddy keeps his oil fresh and his valves adjusted properly. It smokes a bit on the top end, but what do you expect for something that sees 20 miles of pavement riding on a dailey baises.Dont get me wrong it probably could've use a new top end about a yr ago but he doesn't make alot of money working on a farm. Its lost a step or 2 but hey it still runs.

Sell a 400ex and get a raptor?????? Never ever never ever never....ever. Especially an 03...the trannys and starters and rod bearings and steering stem bearings are junk.
