4x4 in snow
#12
Thinking my last reply was real lame, for as much snow going as I do I could come up with better. Our last outing through 6'' of crusted snow on the south side of the hills, and 10"+ on the north side was done to break a trail for cattle that were to be moved, consisted of my Honda-s, my 00 Kodiak, and a Polaris Sportsman 500. It was a tough-tough go. The Polaris generally led the way, but not all the time. It seems that each machine had conditions that would favor the type of attack each would offer. The Polaris and Kodiak riders were light weights, not me. Again, weight worked some of the time, sometimes not. Our stragities included pushing like a train with all machines if possible to keep going, then sometimes we could find sagebrush to help us run, right over the top of the brush, had to winch once, the belt drives also weren't the answer all the time, some of the time excessive wheel spin wasn't good, and the Honda could be lugged but undoubtably the best help in the snow is to go downhill. But as stated, these three machines got little miles that day, but lots of use.
