420 Rancher Plow Recommendation
#11
I just installed the Cycle Country 54 inch straight blade plow system. I have one questions on it: The skid plates that are attached to the blade, do not currently even touch the ground. Now once the ware bar on the blad wares down, it will be touching the ground before the ware bar is completely gone, but my question is, should this be dragging on the ground to prodect the ware bar as well?

Depends
If you want to clean all the snow off and don't really care about a little ware, then no.
However on the Warn plow they are adjustable up or down. If you don't want to scratch decortive driveways then put them just at the same height as the blade, if you are plowing on gravel and don't want to push rock into the yard then you can adjust them to run an inch or more off the surface. ( You can also purchase a plastic cutting edge, which I am going to try this year.)
However when clearing black top or a normal concrete drive I move them all the way up or take them off so the blade removes all the snow.......sooner or later, yea I will have to buy a new cutting edge.......but that is just the cost of maintance.

Thanks again for all your recommendations. I ended up getting the 48inch Warn Plow for motox (with actuator).
I have the plow assembled and I installed the bracket yesterday. All that is left is the wiring for the actuator. I have a few questions about this...
1. Where do you splice into the ignition wire?
2. Where did you guys mount the relay? Is says to mount to the frame but I don't really want to drill into that...
Any install pics for the wiring would be GREATLY appreciated!!!
Thanks guys!

Probably not the most appropriate way, but I found a hot wire coming off the warning lights. At least I didn't have to cut into the wiring loom.
Mounted the relay on the frame upright, as high as possible, just inside the front fender using a couple of large wire ties, or you could use hose clamps. It has to go with the breaks in the up position.

Coat all connections and scotch-locks with di-electic grease. This will keep moisture from the connections. You can buy a tube at any auto parts store.
You are going to be very happy with your choice.
We got 6-8 inches this past week and the little 420 is a great snow plower.

Thanks for the suggestions - could you be a little more specific about the location of the connection for the ignition splice? Are you referring to a wire that was right under the central display (speed, gear, etc. display)?

I have the manual shift 420 so all I have are the neutral/reverse/4X4/ lights and a light for the high temp and low oil. These wires are not wraped in the loom, so I used a test light and found the wire off the high temp light that is hot when the key is on and used a scotch lock and tapped into that wire.
The connection you are asking about is not the main power, that is coming from the battery connect, this is basically just to power the switch, so not much currant is going through that connnection.
Basically, any hot wire will do.
That is just the easiest to get to on the 420 manual shift and close to the thumb switch.
