12V outlet install

I own a 1996 Honda Foreman 400 and I would like to install a 12V outlet where is the best place to mount it and does anyone have instrutions on how to run the wires and where to wire it in?

YOU decide where you want the outlet, glen06!

Mount the socket onto the plastic with sheet-metal screws, use a female bullet disconnect on the source positive wire, a male on the negative or ground wire (so you don't get polarity mixed up and have a way to disconnect when you must remove the plastic); mount the 12V socket so it drains (doesn't catch water); an RV-type outdoor socket with a spring-loaded, rubber-lined cover is a good idea; also, putting a fuze holder and fuze in-line with the positive lead is good practice.

Make sure the location you choose provides adequate clearance for inserting and withdrawing accessory plugs; also, not in the way of your mounting/dismounting the quad.

You don't say what you want to power with your plug. If its a gps, light or ect that you need up front I put mine under the rack on the right side and ran my wire down the rack mount hole. This did'nt require any hole cutting . I usually run a wire all the way back to the selinoid or directly to the battery with an inline fuse. This keeps you from overloading any circuit and the accessory plug is always hot--does'nt require the motor to be running. The reason I do this is so my GPS does'nt go off. I put my wire in a loom and zip tie everything neatly.

I dont recall if there is enough room to put it in the side of the headlight pod. If there is, then thats a good place to put one and it will require minimal wiring and also be convienient. I added an extra "always hot" outlet in addition to my keyed outlet in the pod. Both fit nicely and I have the option of switched or always hot.
