Default Help with 85 TRX125 carb adjustments

Help with 85 TRX125 carb adjustments....

Hello, newbie here, looking for some help with the factory settings for the idle and a/f set screws....

First off, can someone tell me which one is which, then how many turns out each one should be set at according to factory specs...yes I am sure I will have to do some tinkering....

I am about to pull what hair I have left out of my cranium...this thing is driving me batty....I can get it to run, but it does not want to stay running at idle...prolly just needs a good cleaning...

Thanks for any help anyone can provide!

Default Help with 85 TRX125 carb adjustments

Thanks a bunch!

so which set screw is the mixture and which is the idle?

I am guessing the one that is in the air tube to be the idle and the one that is almost in the center of the carb body/slide area is the mixture.....correct or backwards?

Thanks again!

Backwards. Youll see when you pull out the slide, how the idle screw works. Its just a tip of that screw on a ramp on the slide, which mechanicly opens the slide. If it wont idle, and the idle screw holds the slide open, then you most likely have a plugged idle jet. Just buy a new one, becasue the hole in that jet is so tiny, its about impossible to open it back up. They are like 5 bucks at the dealer.

DOH!

Been a while since I tinkered with a carb...had I thunk about it a bit, I would have remembered what you just stated....I must have lost that brain cell on a 6er a while back....

Thanks for reminding me about the setscrews.....

Important note on the mixture screw. When adjusting the screw and it "bottoms out" DON'T force it past where you feel resistance. The screw has a point on the end that is very easily bent if screwed in and forced. If you bend it it won't work right again. Just a note. Hope this helps. aratvguy.

got it working, then it got cold..have to choke it till it warms up....this is what it helped me get:

Now if I could just get a pdf copy of the service manual, I can figure out how to replace that steering bushing and fix the tranny on the other one I have....(hint hint)

update, got it tuned perfectly I guess, never have to use the choke, even though it has gotten cold around these parts...yes, 50 is cold...anyway, I am amazed, I can go out there, turn the power switch on, hit the starter button and it will fire up and run on it's own first time, every time..... still have to replace that darn steering bushing.....then I am going to make front and rear cargo carriers....might have a line on the tranny parts I need for this beasts twin that I have in the garage....

Is there anywhere I might be able to find an exploded view of the carb on a 85 Honda TRX125? I have this atv and it runs, but it doesn't idle well and when its at full throttle it seems to sputter. I can see dark smoke from the exhaust when it is trying to idle.
