Opinions - 2000 TRX (Rancher?) 350 ES 4x4 as a first ATV?
#1
I am looking at buying a 2000 Honda TRX 350 ES 4x4 with 4000 KM an it (I think it's called a Rancher in the USA). Seems to have been riden lightly by a local 55yo veterinarian. (still has original tires, no marks on the rims, no winch, so owner probably didn't plan on getting stuck)
Assuming it hasn't been riden real hard, what are the pros and cons of this machine? I am looking to trail ride on weekends with my little guy as a passenger in the "back seat", but I'm sure I will later try some mud and tougher spots that the logging roads.
Are there any known trouble spots on this ATV? As well, what is the availability of replacement parts like?

The Rancher 350 is a great machine. My 00 has been absolutely trouble free for all these years. These mid size machines are nice...big enough to do the job, yet not a hulking 700 pound beast either.
It is full time 4wd, so one of the best things you can do is install the Warn 424, which will make it selectable 2wd/4wd! As for the ES system, that is something I religiously avoid! Lots of posts in there about problems with that system, so it's buyer beware on that one......

Thanks reconranger
I was thinking about the 424 (the tech at the dealer who has it mentioned it as well). The price is set at CAN$ 3650. I'm in Nova Scotia. Any feedback on price here?
I'd love more feedback on the ESP tranny as well. I have seen the glitches posted, but most center around the battery or other power problems affecting the "electric" part of the ESP. Not really tranny problems at all. Any problems on the tranny side itself?
Anyone else?
