I bought an 01 Rubicon with problems cheap: Doesnt move!!

Put in drive it sounds like it tries to pull out in a high gear and rev the engine high and it makes a nasty noise.

Put it in drive or reverse, goes 6 inches then stops??

Dash blinks continuously
Replaced: angle sensor, ecm, checked and took apart shift control motor, took
it to the garage and told me it wasnt electrical??

Drained the oil and found some small silver/gray particles in the oil??? Not sure that could have worn or broke to make that??

And when i started it in ESP, i can shift.... but this is the order: 1,3,4.... no 5th??
then down shifting: 4,3,2,1 ??

skips 2nd gear on the way up but not down?? I had it in 4th, shut of the quad and turned it back on and it started on back at 1st?? so i guess it never shifted??

Has this happened to anyone? THANKS!!

 

You need a new Hydrostatic transmission ... Once they make the grinding/ratcheting sound and barely move (or don't move at all) then the Hondamatic needs to be replaced it should have a new oil pump installed at the same time ...

 

Well I appreciate that and really was trying to avoid it. Have looked into buying one and the cheapest i found was $930.00. Anyone seen one cheaper???

Also, I know I have to tear the engine apart down the middle..... will i have to buy the special tools to take off the clutch and everything too??

 

Hey I gotta question.... I found a used Hondamatic pretty cheap its out of a ruby with a blown engine.... but my question is how can you tell if the tranny is good or not from just looking at it?? And if an engine would blow how would it effect the tranny??
