Hey all...I'm new to this forum so bear with me if my question is obvious or has been covered a million times. (I hang out on the twinturbo.net forum a lot and over there noobs get crucified for not searching to see if their question has already been answered...but it is a great forum if you own a 300zx)

Anyway...I bought a Rancher 420 this summer and have been tearing through the snow lately and noticed that when it's cold outside (below 20ish) that it won't shift into reverse at all until it has warmed up for 5-10 minutes or so and then shifts fine. When cold it shifts fine into all the forward gears...just not reverse. (it's a manual shift in case anyone's curious)

Anyone know what the cause of this could be?

 

Have not experienced that. Try a clutch adjustment. Procedure is in your owner's manual.

I was riding in the cold today, and it was indeed shifting notchy the whole time. Made a mental note to myself to do a clutch adjustment.......

Are you running a lighter oil for winter?? Like a 5W30 or 0W30???? I would think that thick oil would not be great for shifting in the cold.

 

If it is idling high, like durung warmup, it will give you grief when it comes to shifting
