1992 TRX 250x problems maybe???
Hi im new to this board as well as ATV's. I just purchased a 92 250x. It has bad front end shake at around 4 gear or high speed. Im thinking its the tie rods but not sure. Is there anything i need to look out for on the fronts. I know the bushings are new. Also can someone tell me how to wire a headlight back up. The guy i bought it from didnt know. Its a kick start so i need to wire it up to the stator. Another thing is started hearing while riding in 2nd gear slowly, is like a slap or rattling noise. It only does it in 2nd gear. Every other gear you dont hear it. Could this just be the chain or something inside the motor? Also the kill switch was removed. Can someone help me wire that up. I think i know how, i just want to make sure im doing it right. Also what do you guys think of this thing. The only thing i dont like so far is the kick start. It usually starts but today i had to get pushed off. I think i flooded it. The compression release was removed also. Thats another thing i need to put back on. Thanks for all your responses.

250X. always liked that one..even better than the 300ex.
anyway, the wire for the lights is a part of the wiring harness and thus already wired into your stator UNLESS someone has jacked it up. take off the plastic and handle bars and look around for a suspicious wad of tape - the light wire may be hiding in there. i dont know of many who would slash the wiring harness, even when removing lights. most of the time they just tape the wires up after unplugging from the light assembly.
if your kill switch is the one stock one on the handlebars, you may be better off just buying another wiring harness and switch assembly off ebay or a honda dealer (online discount of course) b/c they wil be hard to find and expensive from a conventional dealer.

thanks, im not sure if the person before cut the wires, actually he bought it the way it was and just rode it during the day. The bike doesnt have the stock switch. Someone removed it along with the compression release. Is there a way to make a kill switch. Right now i put the bike in 1st and let the clutch out while holding the brakes. Its not very good because it just floods the bike and makes it hard to start right after

I just went through the same thing. I too purchased a 1992 honda 250x which was set up for racing. Didn't have the headlight installed. I re-installed it. I found on the right side (looking at the quad from the front) directly under the plastics in front of the tank there was a ball of tape. inside that was the plug for the headlight and another wire to be hooked up. I was lucky enough to have all the parts still. I also had to rewire the kill switch. he had a tether switch on it. Still looking for info on how to re-install the reverse though.
