Default 420 Keeps dying

Ill say it again, check the vent pipe and fuel cap, it is a really common problem and will give the exact symptons you say.

Ditto!!!

Put your fuel cap/vent tube on his quad and have him take it for a ride. I bet he has some condensation forzen up inside the tube or something.....

It's not the fuel cap. We actually just switched fuel caps and it kept doing the same thing.

We went for a ride yesterday and his machine will run all day going really slow, but once you give it a little gas...it'll turn right off but start right back up again.

I was hoping it was the fuel cap, but it looks like after giving it a little gas and picking up a little speed, it'll just turn right off.

It's got us super stumped and wishing there was a shop that can diagnose the problem.

I hope we can get it all running good...he just bought it and already it's having this little problem...it was actually having this little problem before, but the person who he bought it from thought it was from the cold---but if his machine is dying, wouldn't my machine be dying too?

Thanks everybody

Change the fuel line filter, could have water if it. If the bike idles, mix some Sea Foam or similar fuel injector cleaner in the gas and let it idle for an hour or two. If that don't work, based on all the other guesses posted here, I 'd say your ECM is fritzed.

You have enough spark advance to start-usually stored on a ROM chip- but once rpms exceed the start algorithm, it dies. Since it dies, that leads me to believe it's NOT a sensor. It also will run at high rpm, but not at mid-range speed. Which tells me the 'high speed' algorithm is working too. You just don't have mid-range. Which to me, means your mid range algorithm is fritzed, due to the failure of some component of the ECM circuit board.

It sucks, but I'd say take it to a dealer, and have them fix it. They will be able to diagnose the problem accurately, where we are just guessing. If I'm right there are ECM reset procedures that will need to be done, which you may not be able to do without a manual.

You just have to love open loop fuel injection in cold weather on a quad...

I wonder what they found, that was way over a month ago and they never posted back
