I am considering buying this quad. Would like some feedback as to how this quad is holding up. Reliability, durability, etc. Is it a work horse when needed and so on.

I plan on using it for work duties at the hunting camp & hauling deer (hopefully) and some everyday trail riding.

That's exactly how I use mine, and couldn't be happier with it! I also plow with it, and it does a great job there too. My neighbor just went and bought one exactly like mine, because he borrowed it to plow and loves the setup.

It does great on the trail, and even better hunting/hauling animals.

You won't be disappointed.

Question: Why did you sell your sportsman and rubicon? They're both good machines as well....

Answer: Good question, they were and are both good atv's. After having our first child the wife decided she didn't want to ride anymore - because of the baby and because she had a "very minor accident" she hit a deep rut on a ride and it slung her off.

I really liked her Rubicon, but held onto mine because of several reasons including EFI. I thought down the road I would sell mine and get a Honda of some type with EFI......honda has been extremely slow though to come out with them. In all honesty, in the end I just didn't like the heavy weight of the Polaris. It was a chore just to push it into the basement and lift/slide it into it's corner.

The Rancher 420 is a very nice, solid machine. I recall seeing a thread or two about ES problems, but I think that's the vast minority. They are a sporty, snappy machine. Ride wise on rough trails, don't expect IRS smoothness.

Compared to the Rubicon the Rancher would be lighter, a little lower, and sporty, but not quite as much low end torque.

 

Mine has proven to be superb. Quick handling and a snappy powerband. No mechanical or reliability problems. It is a trail quad however, not a monster mud bogger nor the ultimate work quad. IRS has advantages in some situations, but for the most part I prefer the solid stable feel of an SRA.
