04 Rancher ES wont shift when warm
#1
I have about 600 miles on this quad now and about every 80 miles I have had to change the angle sensor. This time around is something new. I am not getting any error codes but it is turning into a nightmare to get it to shift when the engine warms up.
Anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions on how to fix it as I am tired of dropping $50 for angle sensors a couple of times a year.

4star, Do you have a good description or pictures as to where the angle sensor and shift motor are located? My 2000 ES just started not shifting and I can't tell what is what. Thanks for any help

I don't have any pics but it is located on the front of the motor on the bottom. It is covered by a thin piece sheet metal held on by two bolts. It is a bit difficult to get to so if you can get the front of the quad up off of the ground it will make it easier to get to from the bottom.

I have just purchased a 06 rancher AT with 30 hours and 191 miles on the clock and everything has been going great until yesterday when it got very warm and would not shift gear in auto or esp mode & the gear display was blank, it would also not go in to reverse so I limped home in 1st gear, put in in the garage and went back to it about 10 mins later and in was fine. I always use it in auto mode but have now started using it in esp instead and it seems to run better, I was wondering how many of you jet wash your quads after using them like I do as I think my problem could be water getting in the electrics.

I'm starting to have problems with the electrics on my 07' foreman ES already(only 16 hours on the display). I power wash mine at the car was or the dealership I work at, and I've already found water in my ES switch harness(causing a code 2 int.). My dad has a 99' fourtrax 300 that you could drive through a river and never have a problem. These new electric oriented machines are going to be a pain I think. If they want to weigh them down with electronics, they should build harnesses with o-rings that won't fail in water!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah water seems to be a problem with these new machines, I always spray my electrical connectors with silicone spray now just to help keep it out, I also know that here in england you can buy a spray thats coats the electrics in a fine rubber like substance to keep water out.

The stealership couldn't find anything wrong with the Rancher but did mention that any moisture could cause it to throw a code. Kind of odd cause mine lives in the garage and I mostly use it for yard work so it almost never sees any mud or water.
Like yours, my father has a 2005 manual shift Rancher and has never had any problems with it. I won't but another ES next time around.
