Default Stalling

2001 Honda Rancher, electric shift. I am so frustrated. Any assistance is greatly appreciated. The machine was parked for a few months. Got a new battery, added new fuel. The machine starts up--aslong as the choke is all the way open. With the choke all the way open, it will run for a little bit, 'missing' every once in a while, but then stalling. If the choke is touched, it stalls. If you touch the throttle, it stalls. I blocked the air intake, and rpm rev, but then stalls. Cleaned carb, and it did not help at all. What is going on? Any ideas? Thanks

Try a spark plug first. That is the cheapest place to start.
