Default 02 440ex problems

hi everyone hope you can help me i just bought a 2002 400ex last week. it has a 440 big bore kit, stage 2 hot cams, yoshi exhaust, jet kit, and uni air filter. the problem is it has a really bad tick to it but i have heard honda do have an issue with ticking but this one is bad and the oil pump was just replaced i think they need to be adjusted but i dont know what they are supposed to be at? i know the stock specs but it should be different right?? ok the other question is what kind of fuel should i be running?? i am using 93 octane now. ok thanks for reading and some help would be really appreciated

ive put my life in my 400ex. ran awsome but it ticked. it had the same problem. now 2800 dollars later, tring to figure out the ticking, it was the timing chain. get a new chain and tentioner. do not get a HD chain just get a OEM one. i am will to bet its that.

if not the timing chain then you should adjust your valves.

As for your fuel question, it depends on the compression ratio of your engine. Higher the compression, the higher the octane you need. Since it appears that you did not build the engine, see if you can get the info from the people that did.

Most 426 and 440 kits I am familiar with tended to be high compression kits. Without knowing what yours is, I wouldn't go any lower than 93 octane.
