Default Sand Tire For A TRX250EX

Have a new 07 250EX on the way. Standard tires are 22's. Will be using in the dunes and need suggestions on tires and size. I am thinking going with a shorter tire for gearing help. Looked at 20's and also 18's. 18's may be a little short. Don't want to spend a huge amount for high end tires, it is just a 250 learning bike for the kids. Heard Gecko's are ok but very heavy. The Skat-Traks are well liked, Glider or Edge? The tried and true Sand Star? Any thoughts would be appreciated

We run 20" 6-paddle Skat-Trak Edges (V-shaped paddle) in back, and 21" Skat-Trak Mohawks in front. The lightly moded little 250 handles them must fine! I like the Skat's,, because they are so light...and weight is your absolute enemy in the sand!

Yeah, either Skat Trac Edge or Sand Sharks. Sand Sharks are heavier but much less $$. Geckos work OK on the 250EX but they are heavier too.

Whatever tire we go with, we will probably go with the Douglas Blue label .125 wheels. Reasonable cost and good strength. Thought about the heavier Black label but in the sand, don't think we need the extra strength and weight. This is for the kids so their isn't a lot of rider weight. Any other wheel suggestions? Don't need the fanciest wheels, just good lightweight ones. Trying to keep the rotating weight down but also have to consider cost to weight. What are some thoughts on a Glider or Edge in the 18x9.5x8 tire? Would they be too small going from the stock 22x10x9 rears? Thanks for the input. Considering the limited performance of the 250, would the straight paddle Glider be good for the kids? The straight blade can be more difficult to turn but they won't be going that fast and climbing that high, it may not be an issue.

that what i run is blue labels and at th dunes you dont really need heavy duty wheels. and also the gliders are buffed so you will get better traction, i dont know if the edges are buffed.

any suggestions on where to get the Glider/wheel package at a reasonable cost? I've checked Rocky Mountain. The Gliders and Blue label wheels at RMATV runs $88 per tire 20x10x8 and the wheels $44 per for 9x8. Those darn Geckos can be had for around $180 for the package. The Skats with wheels are $264. Are the Gliders worth the extra $80+ dollars?

ordered a set of Skat Gliders today. after talking with recreationtires.com , we came to this set up. 20-11x9 6 paddle Gliders. They said the extra width would help flotation. We talked about wheels and I wanted a 9" wide with a 3Bx6N spacing. The only available was in the .160. A little heavier than the .125 but hoping it helps with the extra width. Time will tell. want to add an exhaust, intake filter and jet kit. Any suggestions on exhaust? Thanks for all of the help
