Default 1999 TRX300EX Carb Work

A friend of mine has a 1999 TRX300EX that's been sitting with a tarp on it behind his shed for more than a year. We started working on it today. He said it ran fine until he ran it with the air filter off. We took the carburetor off today and are going to look at it in the morning. I'm not exactly sure what happened to it but does anyone know what we should do other than clean the carb air filter and tubing? Are there any other simple tunes ups we should do?

Can anyone show me where I can find out how to properly clean and re-adjust the carb? I've never done any carb work.

Default 1999 TRX300EX Carb Work

Following the guide http://www.blasterforum.com/ge...an-your-carb-pics.html We started to clean the carb. We ran into a problem when a crew got stripped opening the cover to the float. I was going to open the Choke but that screw began to strip. What can I do about these screws? I have a craftsman damaged screw removing kit and used the smallest bit but it just carved into and never caught. Can anyone help me out??

The choke doesn't have to be removed .. Check the accelerator pump "the cover with 3 screws" if the diaphragm is in old gas long it will start to disolve the rubber , I use Honda carb cleaner and it works very good I usually let jets , pilot screw etc. soak over night ... I save the old carb cleaner when I'm done it's good to soak carb bodies in ..

The screws , you'll have to remove them with small vicegrips , small center punch or cut a small slot in them and remove with a straight slot screwdriver ..

Thanks for that assembly drawing. I was able to get the screw out and found a honda parts dealer to get those replaces pretty close to my house. He can't find any booklets or manuals on the quad so where can I find what type of plug, oil, and oil filter he needs?

Also, there are two hoses, 18 and 25 on this site, that are were not connected to anything but the carb, is that the way they should be?
