Default 400EX Rear Carrier Bearings

I purchased a used 400ex last year. At the time the rear carrier (axle) bearing were shot. I replace with a set off of flea bay. The axle nut always comes loose. I think It came loose and I didn't catch it and the bearing are shot again.

I need to replace the bearing, any suggestions as to which brand to use, example moose racing, pivot works,?

I am going to use another suggestion, After all is replace, I plan to put black tape on the treads of the axle nut after everything is torqued down. Hopefully, it will keep everything tight, and help the bearing to last a lot longer.

Thanks

I would not put black tape on those threads,

use loctite blue

or get the 3 piece locking nut
and try tightening it a bit more than you have

I just purchased a set of Moose Racing bearings. I hope they last longer than the last set.

Thanks for the responses

I did replaced them once before. One side came out with just a little persuasion. The other side I could not get it out. I beat on it so much that I broke the bearing trying to get it out. I took the carrier to a machinist who had to cut the old one out. It should go a lot easier this time.

I hope....

Now that I understand the difference between the two carriers, I can see the difference in the bearings. The dual row is the way to go, but for now as $ is tight, I'll stick with the oem carrier.
