400ex rear pads

Well i bought a 400ex with the rear caliper/spindle/rotor all bashed apart. Im installing the last part now, the brake pads, but having trouble getting them in. It looks like there is two screws that hold the pads in place and im wondering if thats what im missing?

Yes, there are 2 bolts that go threw both pads at the same time. If you don't have the bolts then you should know there is also a plate that goes under both bolt heads as well. This plate has tabs that fold over to keep the bolts from backing out and should be used as well.

I used to do this, but found it works even better to open the bleeder instead. You can hook a small hose to it and run it to an old bottle to avoid a mess. The other thing is I run a parking brake block off plate. You lose the parking brake, but have a nice, flat surface right behind the pads for a c-clamp to gain purchase and push the piston back in. Also, make sure you are cleaning all the mud and corrosion off the piston before pushing it in. I use brake cleaner and/or a soft brass bristle brush. If you are running the parking brake you usually have to back that adjuster way off or the piston can't return far enough to allow new pads to fit.
