Honda Recon Wont Idle
So, my recon wouldnt run... it was having that stalling/dieing problem...first I cleaned the carb, then the air filter, then it wasnt getting gas so I got rid ofthat old brown **** that was in the tank and cleaned the petcock (fuel valve) Now it runs and it will start easily but it wont idle, after riding for a few minutes, it will idle but it is a week idle... The throttle screw is in all the way (all the way up) and the idle mixture screw is at 1 3/4 turns out (most people say 2 turns and mechanic says 1 1/4) SO WHY WHYWHY WONT IT IDLE SMOOTHLY???? the gas is clean and theres a good flow, the carb is clean... Ive doe EVERYTHING (i think!) please please help!!!

When you start it do you rev it at all before you let it idle? When you rev it make sure your either in neutral or have the brake on (all the way) Only put about 1/8 throttle into the rev. Or you can do a quick 1/4 rev but dont do it too long or you'll break something, and thats never fun. Thats the only thing I can think of. Let me know how it goes. If I find something else out ill be sure to pm you or come back here and reply.

Dude its rather simple. If you have spark, Fuel and it will rev but NOT idle! its the pilot jet! take it out and clean it out with 0000 steel wool. beshure to spray out the passages with Berrymans B-12. Its absolutly the best carb cleaner on the market!
Do this and i promise it will idle..
I know you said you cleaned it, but do it again!

Worst case is if the stator is getting weak.
Over the years I found one recon with simular issues and after stator replacement the problem went away.
Other than that, tight valves or pilot circuit issues have been the burden
Make sure when you install the fuel air mixture screw assembly that all th eparts are there. Screw, spring, small washer, small o-ring. If the washer and o-ring are assembled on your fuel air screw backwards, issues you speak of will exist. Make sure they are assembled in order I listed above. o-ring goes in the carb first when installing the fuel air screw. Also make sure you did not lose the o-ring during carb clean
