i'm looking for some feed back on hand vs thumb throttle. I'm used to riding motorcycles and now that i have a quad this thumb throttle is driving me nuts. Whats the reason for the manufactures to put a thumb throttle on quads? Whats the disadvantages of having a hand throttle on a quad? What do you guys have?

This topic has been beaten to death with innumerable threads. You might want to do a search on the subject and learn more than you really wanted to know about the pros and perceived cons regarding twist throttles

what i really liked about the thumb was in really
technical type riding (large rocks and logs).when
your wrist moves a lot and could affect a twist
throttle your thumb pretty much stays where it
is.

I switched from bikes just as you did. I ordered a twist throttle for my quad before I left the dealer. I also had one on my 300EX both from Motion Pro and have not had a single problem.I like it a lot better than the stupid thumb. But because you have been riding with the thumb it take about an hour to get used to it again. They should come stock with twists.

Twist throttles are very dangerous on a quad. A dirt bike and a four-wheeler are very different and its not the same when you jump and do technical riding. I would stick with a thumb and if you can't get used to a thumb throttle sumething must be wrong with you.

My old blaster had a twist throttle, have to say I preferr the thumb... first time riding it was pretty tricky, when Id haul a wheelie Id end up giving it more gas and for a while it was pretty sketchy... its harder to smoke a tire with twist also

I've had both and I think thats its whatever you feel comfortable with. I too rode bikes for along time before switching to a quad. I had a motion pro twist on my 88 250r and hated it, but i got a oem honda CR250 twist on my 89 and love it. Maguara makes a good one too.

I'd say that it's not worth the hassle.
I had the thumb on my shee and switched to the twist...it's not as painful as the thumb was, but it gets cramps in my arm instead of the hand. You're not as precise, and it's far from being similar to a bike twist. I'd say not to change it.

I use twist throttle on all my quads. Its just a personal preference. Do what is more comfortable to you...
